Greetings! Today, I’m knocking on your reader with a doujin from an artist that I discovered through a rare ship I love in Haikyuu!!. If you’ve ever shipped any two characters, and it was a rare pairing to boot, you’ll know the hardships of finding someone in the fandom to scream together with. I’m not even mentioning scraping the depths of Pixiv or Archive of Our Own. That’s why I felt I couldn’t miss out on ordering a physically published doujin of my favorite pair!
Now, if you ask me what the details are to the story is… I pretty much don’t know what’s going on in the doujin more than the synopsis above, just what I made out from Google Translate’ing the hell out of it. Which wasn’t much. I just know it’s emotional and there’s some kissing involved and those are always nice. As far as the ‘shipping’ business goes, for some reason I’ve always been drawn to more rare pairings than the main ones, doesn’t matter the fandom. Although why BokuTsuki is this rare, I can’t understand considering they have a lot of screen time together in canon and Bokuto plays a huge role in Tsukishima’s journey of self-realization.
That’s precisely why I loved them together! I value mentor/student type of relationship immensely, not in a one-sided way (and certainly not necessarily involving romantic feelings) but more like a mutual sharing, learning and striving to become a better version of oneself. It is quite obvious that the animal personas for each team represents the characteristics of its players and team dynamic, and Fukurodani being the wise, strong and carnivorous owls is very fitting, especially for Bokuto. That kind of hunger, wisdom and playfulness at times is what gives Tsukishima the push he needed towards what he loved, but were afraid to admit.
It does get tough out there finding the kind of content you want when what you want is rare, but it does bring you closer immediately when you find such people! BokuTsuki either being a part of a poly relationship or it’s just Bokuto cheating on Akaashi with Tsukishima in 90% of the fics was the reason I started writing fanfiction myself and making friends through that struggle and exchanging fics/fanart/comic strips made the fandom experience unforgettable. In general, Haikyuu!! fandom is very creative, productive and overall a really good fandom that I feel fortunate to be a part of, although I don’t write on a regular basis anymore.
