Hello! Hope that everyone had a nice week and ready to relax for the next two days, or maybe have something special planned for themselves. I finally get to review one of the first titles I’ve read on Tapas. Oh! My Assistant shares the same artist with Love Tractor, and after revisiting this one, now I wonder how it didn’t ring any bells.

Title: Oh! My Assistant
Author & Artist: MILA & AngryMonster
Release Year: 2019
Status: Completed, 45 chapters.
Licensed? (Y/N): Yes, on Tapas! (All-ages version & Mature version)
Seonho is your friendly artist who draws heterosexual adult webtoons. He started as a way to make quick money and hadn’t consciously planned to end up on the mature side of the industry but here he is. As any artist would affirm you that it’s important to use references, that’s what he does, but throughout his serialization, he’s watched so much porn to a point he can’t get aroused. As if this isn’t enough, his editor is by no means a shy woman, she doesn’t hold back on spicing up the webtoon and their opinions usually clash. All of this makes Seonho question his capability and why in the hell he’s keeping up with such an environment and schedule.

All hope is not lost, though! He’s always dreamed of turning his flat into a shared studio where he can work with his assistant side by side and finally he’s ready to interview applicants. The first applicant ditches him last minute, the second one shows up, he’s talented and is alright with coordinating his schedule with Seonho’s but refuses to commute to the studio. Just when Seonho accepts defeat, the last applicant knocks on his door. He’s a 30-year-old man called Muyeong and is okay with commuting to the studio, but he’s just a little… well, let’s see:

And that’s only the beginning of his heap of demands. Despite everything, especially the deadly 9 a.m. condition, Muyeong is hired and thus their journey begins.
This manhwa is a perfect balance of funny, cute, sexy, and emotional! For me, tsundere characters are ‘either hit or miss’. There is a thin line between being annoying and being less straight about showing emotions And in that sense, Muyeong is handled exceptionally well. Or, at least, written the way I like it. He has his reasons for putting on breaks even though Seonho is exactly his type, but he also has so many cute, internally-gushing moments when something makes his heart skip! Although he doesn’t look it.

Seonho picks up on Muyeong’s small changes in expression and mannerisms quite early as well. There are of course the usual romance tropes at play; misunderstandings here and there, a love rival, the dilemma between keeping the status-quo versus taking the risk of confession. However, these are all handled more level-headedly and the characters are all very likable that I enjoyed going through the footworn romantic path along with them once more.
As for the differences between the all-ages and the mature versions; in the all-ages version, the sex scenes are taken out, only light making out scenes where bodies are cut appropriately exist. No explicit words, no explicitly drawn genitalia but these make 10-15% of the whole story, probably? It’s not exactly at the core of the series.
Overall, it was such a delight reading this manhwa that I keep going back to read a couple of episodes to energize myself. We get to know more about Muyeong’s past and not much about Seonho. While I understand that would probably drag out the series, I felt like wanting to know more about his relationship style, based on his previous experience. There’s mention of an ex once, and that was just why she broke up with Seonho. There’s also a mention of a younger brother once, other than that we have no idea if he has family or friends, in contrast to Muyeong where we read about his high school years and family situation.
Oh! My Assistant is currently in Wait For Free section on Tapas where you can unlock one episode every 7 days. If you are to buy additional episodes the counter doesn’t reset and continues from the next locked episode. What’s better with Tapas’ WFF is that once the free episode is unlocked, it’s yours to keep; there is no time limit.
That’s all for today! Take care, and see you next week ~
